A T T I L A
Version 1.2
The object of ATTILA is simple: blend clever strategy and a little
bit of luck to conquer the world.
What's new in version 1.2 ?
* The game recorder:
All games will be recorded automatically; later on you can watch
your victories (or defeats...) using the game recorder.
* Choice of flags:
Now there are 16 flags at your disposal; as in my game SEABATTLE
you have your choice of flag.

INSTALL.EXE Type "INSTALL", press <ENTER>/<RETURN> and fol-
low the instructions.

The program will generate game record files with
the suffix *.SPL und *.HST automatically at the
beginning of every new game.

The program generates the following individual files automati-
cally:
TST12.$$$ Zero-byte control file with the effect that the
reference window with the new flags will be shown
only once - at the first start of the program.
ATTILA12.INI Configuration file.
ATTILA.SCO Highscore file.
06122130.SVD Files with the suffix *.SVD contain saved games.
Every time you press <ESC> or click the <ESC>
button the program will generate such a file au-
tomatically (e.g. June, 12th, at 9.30 p.m.).
Installation
You may use INSTALL.EXE (see above) or you may copy all a.m. files
into any directory "by hand" - that's all.
Running the game/Rules
Enter "AT", then press <ENTER>/<RETURN>.
The file manager table will appear if *.SVD files (saved games) do
exist or *.SPL/*.HST files (game records) or the file ATTILA.SCO
(highscore). Options are highlighted depending on existing files.
* Clicking on button "Show saved games" opens a windows showing
date/time of all saved games. Move the mouse cursor to one of
these files and its date/time will change to green color. Click
on the game you wish to load or click the button "No loading"
to start a new game.
* Clicking on button "Delete all saved games" will delete all save
files. The program manages up to ten *.SVD files: if there are
ten save files existing already the program will replace one of
the old files.
Same procedure is valid for the game record files:
* button "Show game records" and
* button "Delete all game records".
The last two buttons refer to the highscore file:
* button "Show highscore" and
* button "Delete highscore" are self explaining.
You can choose in the configuration table
* the options sound "on" or "off", if your computer is equipped
with a soundblaster (the program will detect a sound card auto-
matically),
* how many powers (= players) should participate in the game (two,
three or four),

* which players will be computer players and which will be human
(middle buttons). Even the computer can control all four powers
- in this case you may study computer's strategy as a silent ob-
server !
* Choose you individual flag clicking on the flag symbols; a small
new window will appear then with four flags for each player's
choice.
* And you can change player's name(s): click the right (smaller)
button.
The computer will randomly distribute the 42 countries among the
players (a summary appears) and then determine by electronically
throwing dice the turn sequence.
At the beginning of each turn you will receive new armies:
* corresponding to the countries you own (divided by three, but at
least three armies).
* In addition, when you have conquered an entire continent, you
receive bonus armies based on the size of that continent (a cor-
responding summary will appear in that case).
* And last but not least you receive additional armies, if you ex-
change complete card sets (musketeer, cannon, cavalryman) for
new armies.
The number of those armies will increase significantly: the
later you exchange cards the more armies you get.
There are two jokers ("J") too. You can use them for one of the
other cards.
In each turn you will receive one card only irrespectively of
the number of conquered countries.
Be clever deploying your new armies ! Be aggressive, but don't
forget the necessity to defend threatened countries ! (At least
one army must remain in each country you own and is not disposable
for attacks.)
You can attack only countries that border a country that you al-
ready own. Invasions over the sea are possible only along the
white pointed lines (e.g. from Alaska to Kamschatka vice versa
too !).
You choose a stationing country respective to the country you will
conquer by clicking the flag in that country. Use the keyboard to
enter number of armies.
Electronic randomly thrown dice decide on success of an attack re-
spective to the defense.
After each electronic roll the dice of the aggressor will be com-
pared with each dice of the defender. If the result is the same
the defender will win. To conquer a country almost the double
strength of the attacker is necessary !
If you conquer the last country of one of the other generals that
player will drop out and you'll receive his cards. If you're now
able to exchange cards for new armies (see above), you can do so:

this is the only exception, that you can reinforce your armies
during a current offensive !
If you cannot continue attacks or you decide to end your turn you
can transfer armies. The rules for transferring armies are the
same as the a.m. rules for attacking.
Game ends if one of the players has conquered the entire planet.
The highscore panel ("Hall of Fame") will appear if your result
(depending on the number of lost armies) is one of the top ten.

This is the complete ATTILA version. Nevertheless the program is
shareware.
This unmodified *.zip file may be copied, distributed (by electro-
nic means, e.g. networks or BBS, by floppy disk or by CD-ROM) and
used by everyone.
If you like the game, please send an amount (10 $ or more - decide
it yourself) to my below metioned address.
You'll receive then the Registration Code; after entering the code
the copyright screen will not appear when ATTILA starts. As regi-
stered user you'll receive future new versions of the game automa-
tically.
